Author Biography
‘Doc’ Don Sturgiss has been steadily building a reputation for computer expertise among his Hollywood and international clients. The Doc’s path towards computer competence began in high school. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1973.
After graduation, ‘Doc’ Don worked for the U. S. Navy as an Electronics Engineer before going on to work with major aerospace companies developing flight systems, radar and computer software. He also worked on an image processing software system in the late seventies that used the very first personal computers (before Apple, even). Computers became a fixture in his life, and ‘Doc’ became a computing enthusiast. From gaming to word processing to databases, desktop publishing, and customization, 'Doc' had found his lifelong interest.
When the aerospace industry reorganized in the late Eighties early Nineties 'Doc' took the leap into professional computing services and has been applying first aid to frustrated clients and their temporarily deranged or sick PCs ever since. The experience gained over these many years, which encompass an incredible evolutionary leap in computer technology and software, means that ‘the Doc’ as we all call him, has garnered enough expertise to warrant the honorific. As you might expect, he’s written a book.
‘Doc’ designs, configures and purpose-builds custom computers with an emphasis on stability, cost-effectiveness, performance, quiet operation and usually, “unobtrusive looks.” He’s developed custom solutions for rapid restoration of computer systems that have experienced catastrophic failure (We’re talking 5 minutes to be back up and running!), and has extensively tested many types of software; developing a suite of reliable award-winning programs that he configures, as he would say, “for maximum smoke.” ‘Doc’s’ computer training services improve people’s competence and understanding so that their computing experience becomes less frustrating and more pleasurable.
