Lena Semenkova - Camouflage of Contradictions
January 20, 2008

It took us a while to find someone of suitable skill and talent, but as a result working with Elena to develop the artwork for the forthcoming official site of the band Midnight.Haulkerton, the honor of First Free Articulator Feature is going to Ukrainian digital artist Elena Semenkova.
Elena Semenkova, also known online as Psychobitchua, is a photographic model who works with photos and photo-manipulation software to produce some astounding visual insights into this particular artist’s observations of the world.
The interview was conducted between the 28th of September and the end of October 2007, with Lena in
As we introduce you to a selection of Lena’s work we offer you a degree of insight into her creativity and the meaning behind a few of her works. They cover a broad range of themes that demonstrate her understanding of life as she lives and experiences it from the Ukraine. We urge you to support this remarkable talent with your purchase of her prints.

In my experience, there are very few artists in any discipline who actually can and do carry on meaningful conversations. It’s almost become a brand to let the art do the talking, and today, that’s a mistake. A big fat marketing mistake.
Most appear to be limited to their medium and that is how they communicate and articulate and are often incapable of answering meaningful questions about how or why they do what they do.
Given that this interview took place in an electronic medium, across a 12-hour time zone difference that initially plagued us with scheduling confusions and provided us with a few laughs, I was pleased to find that despite the self-imposed, rough-edged, spiky professional label Psychobitchua that Lena works under is a person who has developed a camouflage of contradiction which belies an insightful intellect, a warm and generous self-protective guardian spirit, with a well-rounded, well-informed sense of life and knows who she really is.
Leastwise, that’s the perception I came away with after each interview session with
For the next five days, we will publish each part of the interview I conducted with Lena and reviews of her work. To those who follow me, I trust you’ll find it as easy.
